General Manager
WETA North Bay Service

Martin Robbins has managed the Vallejo to San Francisco North Bay Ferry Service since 1999; working originally for the City of Vallejo, and subsequently starting in 2012 for the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA). Beginning in 1992 as the planning for the North Bay Ferry Service was taking form, and up through the initial procurement of the first two high speed ferries to serve that route in 1997; his involvement has been key to this longtime successful service. In 1999 his role transitioned from oversight and management of vessel and facility capital construction management only, to day-to-day management of all aspects of the service.

During his tenure the North Bay Service has expanded from a single high speed ferry to a fleet of six high speed aluminum catamaran ferries. Ridership has grown from 180,000 to 1,100,000 annual passengers. Over the past 24 years he has delivered six new fast ferries, repowered three, and managed the construction of a $32,000,000 state-of-the-art ferry operations and maintenance facility. Robbins recently completed a $63,000,000 project to build three new 445 passenger 32 knot high speed ferries for the service. These new ferries feature the first EPA Tier 4 certified main propulsion engines for this class of vessel.

Shortly after graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in Fuels Engineering, Robbins entered the United States Navy and qualified as a Deck Officer and Electronic Warfare Specialist onboard USS Sand Lance, a fast attack submarine based out of Charleston, South Carolina. During his follow on tour at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, he served as a Ship Superintendent on several fast attack submarine overhauls. Following his naval service he worked for a marine engineering and naval architecture firm supporting clients such as NOAA, the US Coast Guard, and Washington State Ferries.

Robbins is a native of Hornell, New York and is licensed as a Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of Washington.
